Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced what he described as an “imminent end” to the Turkish military’s operation against Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in Iraq and Syria.
Erdogan said, in a statement reported by press sources, "We will very soon complete the closure of the operations area in northern Iraq (northern Kurdistan Region)."
The Turkish president added: "We will also complete the missing points of the security belt along our southern border with Syria."
This comes at a time when Turkish aircraft are intensifying their airstrikes on sites belonging to the Kurdistan Workers' Party in the areas of Amadiya district, north of Dohuk Governorate.
