Shafaq News/ The Kurdistan Region Presidency and the Independent High Electoral Commission confirmed on Wednesday that there is no obstacle facing the parliamentary elections in the region scheduled to be held on October 20.
This came in a joint press conference by Dilshad Shahab, spokesman for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, and Omar Ahmed, head of the Independent High Electoral Commission, following a meeting between them in Erbil.
"We want the electoral process to be fair and successful, and there are no obstacles to its implementation," Shehab said during the conference.
He added that the Kurdistan Region Presidency attaches great importance to holding the elections on the scheduled date.
Regarding his meeting with the Chairman of the High Elections Commission, Shahab said, “Our goal from this meeting was to renew our support for the Kurdistan Region Presidency and the preparatory measures for the elections.”
He explained that "many topics were discussed during the meeting, and questions related to the elections were answered from various aspects," adding, "We are happy and have great hope for the success of this process."
The spokesman stressed that the Kurdistan Region Presidency "is trying to bring together the viewpoints of the political parties, and it is natural for there to be election campaigns, and we see that the competition between the political parties is beginning to show some progress."
Shahab called on the political parties, when starting the election campaign, to protect the beautiful landscape of the Kurdistan Region. In this context, all parties and candidates have the right to advertise for themselves according to the instructions of the Commission.
For his part, the head of the commission announced the completion of all preparations for holding elections in the Kurdistan Region.
During the same conference, Ahmed confirmed that there are no obstacles preventing the elections from being held in the region on the scheduled date, noting that international observers will supervise the voting process in the election centers in the Kurdistan governorates.
He added that the regional government will maintain the security of the elections, stressing that the voting process will take place without problems on October 20.
