Shafaq News/ On Tuesday, the representative of Dhi Qar Governorate, Zainab Al-Khazraji, revealed that more than 50 signatures were collected to raise the amendment of the law on the foundations of equivalence of certificates, from the works of today’s parliament session, stressing that the session will be boycotted if it is not raised.
Al-Khazraji told Shafak News Agency, "The members of the House of Representatives collected more than 50 signatures and will submit an official request to the Speaker of the House to delete the amendment to the law on the foundations of equivalence of certificates from the agenda of today's session."
She pointed out that "amending the law on the basis of equivalence of certificates is unfair to students and employees who wish to study outside Iraq, and that the Parliamentary Education Committee did not hesitate or take into account the reality of study and education and what students suffer from abroad."
Al-Khazraji continued: “We, as representatives, will boycott today’s session and refuse to enter the hall if the parliament presidency does not withdraw the law on the basis of equivalence of degrees from the agenda.”
The "Watan" parliamentary bloc revealed yesterday, Monday, the existence of a parliamentary movement to stop the proposed amendment to the law on the foundations of equivalence of university degrees, as it will prevent employees from completing postgraduate studies, stressing the need to keep the law in its current form.
MP for the bloc, Nazim Al-Shabli, told Shafak News Agency, "There are many comments on amending the law on the basis of equivalence of certificates, as it is unfair to students and employees who wish to complete postgraduate studies."
He explained that "the proposed amendment will lead to the cancellation of Article 12 of the law, which allows the employee to study during his work leave balance, and the period of residence will be continuous for nine months for postgraduate studies, master's and doctorate, and it also requires the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education for the employee to complete his studies, and these points make it difficult for employees and prevent many young people from completing postgraduate studies abroad."
Al-Shabli confirmed, "We will collect signatures from members of the House of Representatives to amend the law on the basis of equivalence of certificates in a way that serves employees and postpone its approval until further notice. If the law is not amended, it will be rejected by members of the House of Representatives in tomorrow's session, Tuesday."
