Economist sets several challenges for Iraqis wishing to live in the region: Language is the first difficulty

Economic researcher Adel Al-Dalfi identified several challenges facing citizens living in Iraqi provinces and those who wish to live in the Kurdistan Region, while he explained that language is the first of these challenges.
Al-Dalfi revealed that “there are some challenges and negatives that citizens who move to live in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq from other provinces in Iraq may face, such as language and culture. Citizens may face difficulties in communicating and adapting to the Kurdish language and local culture in the region.” He noted that “job opportunities also contribute, which may be limited in some areas, especially for new arrivals.”
Al-Dalfi added that “social services are also challenges that citizens will face in obtaining them, such as education and health care.”
He pointed out that “one of the reasons for the decline in real estate prices in the region is the surplus of supply with the slowdown in the region’s population growth, and its impact is that for buyers it is a good opportunity to obtain a property at reasonable prices.” He pointed out that “the decline in real estate prices will lead to the erosion of the value of investors’ real estate assets, and this decline will also affect government revenues such as taxes and fees.”
He continued, “As for the Iraqi provinces, they can follow the example of the Kurdistan Region in the field of real estate, such as developing a clear regulatory and legal framework for real estate investment, encouraging real estate investment, ensuring protection for investors, as well as stimulating local and foreign real estate investment, and providing tax incentives, privileges and facilities for real estate investors by improving real estate services in developing real estate registration and urban planning systems, and simplifying the procedures for obtaining licenses.”
According to the data of the Investment Commission from August 1, 2006 to May 2, 2024, the real estate sector contributed 29.24% of the total investment capital in the Kurdistan Region, and the total investment projects that obtained permits throughout the region are 216 projects, but the number of projects in this sector is much more than the number of the Investment Commission, except that the majority of projects recently obtained permits from ministries or other government institutions in Kurdistan because the lands were owned by the investors themselves.
