Parliament: Merging the Presidency and Government versions of the Drug Law

Members of the House of Representatives see the possibility of merging the two versions submitted by the Presidency of the Republic and the Prime Minister regarding the draft of the Anti-Narcotics Law, noting that the first amendment to the law has entered the first and second reading stages, so the process will stop with voting on it and approving it.
Representatives in the Parliamentary Health Committee stated that the read version reached the House of Representatives from the Presidency of the Republic, while the government completed its version and wants to present it to Parliament for consideration. Committee member Thanaa Al-Azirjawi explained that work is underway to combine the two versions of the Narcotics Law submitted by the Presidency of the Republic and the Government, noting that "the first amendment to the Narcotics Law has been read for the first and second times, but it faces some problems." Al-Azirjawi explained, in an interview with "Al-Sabah", that "the draft anti-drug law proposed by the presidency of the republic has gone through several stages in the House of Representatives, while the government requested to delay its legislation, due to the existence of an alternative version with it," adding that the Health Committee "wants to proceed with the presidency's draft, given that it has been read twice, but there is a discussion within the committee about the possibility of studying the prime minister's proposals and amending them in line with the current draft law, given the existence of some different and identical paragraphs between the two versions, of course." The representative explained that "the prime minister's proposal has not yet reached parliament, but if it does, it is waiting for the completion of the necessary procedures for its arrival, then it will enter the study phase by the relevant committees in the council." Al-Azirjawi said, "We need to carefully study the prime minister's proposals upon their arrival, to ensure their compatibility with the requirements of the current stage and the challenges related to the issue of combating the scourge of drugs and achieving
