    Alsumaria News - Politics

Today, Thursday, the representative of the Ishraqat Kanun bloc, Nofouth Al-Moussawi, revealed the reasons for the refusal of the Presidency of the Council of Representatives to question the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadhil, while threatening to publish all corruption files to the media if he is not questioned inside the parliament dome.

Al-Moussawi said in an interview with Sumaria News: “We submitted a request to the House of Representatives bearing the signatures of more than 100 representatives to question the Minister of Electricity, supported by evidence and proof of the existence of financial and administrative corruption and mismanagement within the ministry,” noting that “the accumulations in the Ministry of Electricity and the electricity sector have become a real dilemma for successive governments, the price of which is paid by the citizen.”

She pointed out that "the request to question the Minister of Electricity was rejected by the Presidency of the Council of Representatives, adding that "we, as the Ishraqat Kanun bloc, are opponents and will pressure the Presidency of Parliament to question the minister, and this is our duty as a legislative institution."

Regarding the reason for rejecting the request to question the Minister of Electricity, she explained that "the agreements between the blocs are the reason for rejecting the questioning of the minister, and these procedures and procrastinations will reduce the oversight role of the representative," stressing: "We are proceeding with the questioning, and if no measures are taken by the Presidency of the Council, we will publish all the files to the media."

Despite the government's repeated promises to improve electricity services, the reality reflects the continuation of problems and challenges that have prevented the provision of stable energy to the population for decades. This comes after Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced the opening and operation of 200 power stations in all regions and cities of Iraq.

Iraq's electricity production last year amounted to 24,000 megawatts, while it currently amounts to 25,000 megawatts, and although the current production is greater than last year's production, the equipment is much worse.
