    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]Water and agricultural expert Tahseen Al-Moussawi criticized the Iraqi government's handling of the water crisis, pointing out that the problems related to water have not been resolved, and that the government is repeating the same scenarios and statements without providing effective solutions.[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Moussawi stressed that “drought and desertification are increasing significantly, and environmental disasters, such as the recent Maysan incident, indicate the worsening of the crisis.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He explained that "the environmental situation is witnessing a significant deterioration, as temperatures rise and evaporation rates increase significantly, in light of low water reserves."[/rtl]
[rtl]According to UN reports, Iraq has entered a stage of serious water stress, where water uses (including human and agricultural uses) exceed available water revenues.[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Moussawi explained that “the negotiations with neighboring countries regarding water shares did not yield tangible results, and that the current discussions did not reach the stage of final agreements, but are limited to exchanging opinions and experiences.”[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Moussawi pointed out that “the Ministry of Water Resources’ plan to grow rice in the Middle Euphrates regions and some southern regions may be very costly, especially if the coming year is dry, which will also affect winter crops.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He added that "the high level of pollutants complicates the situation further."[/rtl]
