    Baghdad Today - Diyala
A government source revealed, today, Thursday (August 29, 2024), that Baghdad has given the green light to increase the discharges of the second largest dam in Iraq.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Orders were issued by the Ministry of Water Resources to increase the releases of the Great Dam from 6 m3/s to 8 m3/s, which is the fifth change in the releases of the Great Dam during 2024."
He added, "The process of reducing or increasing the discharges of the Great Dam is subject to strict instructions from the Ministry of Water Resources, as it is the one that has the exclusive authority to manage the water file within the dams," stressing that "the storage of the Great Dam is less than 200 m3 at the present time."
He pointed out that "the increase in discharges will feed the Great River, which is considered one of the important tributaries of the Tigris River."
It is noteworthy that the Great Dam, whose storage capacity reaches more than 1.4 billion m3, is the second largest dam in eastern Iraq.
