Former MP Fares Al-Fares, a leader in the Azm Alliance, confirmed on Monday that the dismissed Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed Al-Halbousi, pressured the Coordination Framework to amend Article 12 of the House of Representatives’ internal regulations.

In a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, he considered that "the continued position of the Azm and Sovereignty Alliances in supporting MP Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani for the position of Speaker of Parliament caused embarrassment to Al-Halbousi, noting that the embarrassment prompted Al-Halbousi to insist on changing Article 12 of the internal regulations to present a candidate other than Al-Mashhadani."
He added, "Al-Halbousi believed that the statement of the Azm and Sovereignty Alliances supporting MP Al-Mashhadani for the position of Parliament Speaker was merely a political maneuver."
He added, "Al-Halbousi suggested an alternative to changing Article 12 of the House of Representatives' internal regulations, which is to issue a decision to allow the nomination of a candidate to replace the withdrawn candidate, Shaalan Al-Karim."
Leaders of the Hasm Alliance revealed that there were pressures from various political forces to have MP Salem Al-Issawi withdraw from the competition for the position of Speaker of Parliament in favor of MP Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, stressing that Al-Issawi still rejects these pressures. End / 25m
