Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohsen Al-Mandalawi anticipated today's session of the House of Representatives, Sunday, by directing the relevant committees to continue holding their meetings to complete the maturation of the controversial paragraphs of the laws that will be presented in the session, and submit them to the presidency of the council for the purpose of presenting them for a vote in the session.
According to the agenda received by "Al-Sabah", "today's session will witness voting on the draft Personal Status Law No. (188) of 1959, Articles (2 and 10), voting on the draft second amendment to the General Amnesty Law No. (27) of 2016, and voting on the draft law to return properties to their owners covered by some decisions of the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council. The session will also witness voting on the draft law on service and retirement for the Mujahideen of the Popular Mobilization Authority." Members of the House of Representatives confirmed to "Al-Sabah" that today's session, Sunday, is marred by some disagreements and problems and is one of the most difficult sessions.
Member of the State of Law Coalition bloc, Mohammed Al-Shammari, told Al-Sabah: “Today’s session faces some problems, but it is possible to address them and reach a solution that contributes to voting on the laws.”
He added, "The political blocs have so far expressed different visions regarding the laws put forward for voting, including (general amnesty) and (personal status), and the hypothesis of voting on one law against another is possible, but that could lead to some obstruction."
Meanwhile, parliamentary sources attributed to Al Sabah the reason for the delay in setting a session to elect a new Speaker of the House of Representatives to the continuing differences of the “Sunni component.”
