“To enhance national security”.. Parliamentary Committee: Intelligence Service Law is ready to be presented to Parliament

The Parliamentary Security Committee confirmed that the draft law on the Intelligence Service is now ready to be presented to the House of Representatives.
This development comes within the framework of the government's efforts to enhance national security and develop the work of intelligence agencies, as the new law includes amendments aimed at improving the agency's effectiveness in confronting increasing security challenges.
Committee member, MP Yasser Iskandar, said, “Intelligence is one of the important agencies in the Iraqi state. It is concerned with several files, and we see the importance of its role in combating terrorism, enhancing the country’s security, and defending its interests according to the paths set for it.”
He added, "The Parliamentary Security Committee held an important meeting on the paragraphs and articles of the National Intelligence Service Law, which were completed, and it was agreed to approach the presidency in order to present them on the agenda in the coming weeks."
He pointed out that “there are three important paragraphs in the content of the law in terms of powers, legal cover, and its role in protecting the security and interests of the country,” noting that “the committee took it upon itself to formulate paragraphs that give greater flexibility in implementing the tasks assigned to it.”
It is noteworthy that the Parliamentary Security Committee began months ago to draft laws for several security agencies in order to proceed with them and approve them under the dome of the House of Representatives.
