Parliamentary Immigration Committee demands increasing the amount of the return grant

The Parliamentary Migration and Community Reconciliation Committee demanded an increase in the amount of the return grant for displaced families, as it is not enough to return those residing in the region’s camps to their original areas of residence.
Committee member Sharif Suleiman said in a statement to Al-Sabah: The amounts allocated for the return of the displaced to their original areas of residence, from the return grant and others, are not enough to meet the needs of the displaced and meet their daily life requirements after returning to their original areas, which are still destroyed and uninhabitable due to the severe shortage of most services there, calling for an increase in the amount of the return grant.
He added that the current year will end and the displaced are still residing in the camps despite the Ministry of Migration and Displacement preparing a plan for their return, stressing that this needs greater support, as the displaced are still residing in the region’s camps, which indicates a failure to implement the voluntary return plan.
Suleiman added that the onset of the harsh winter, which is very cold in the northern regions, constitutes an additional burden on the displaced families living in the camps, noting that the Ministry of Migration has provided them with heaters and fuel, but that is not enough to ward off the danger of the very cold weather there, which requires increasing financial support, health and food aid, along with the continued distribution of the oil quota.
In the same context, he called for the need to intensify support for the displaced in order to truly return them to their original areas, with the importance of providing all services and rehabilitating the infrastructure there, in addition to providing job opportunities for heads of households and their children so that they can start their lives anew in their areas.
