Heritage markets and buildings in Mosul after its reconstruction

Mosul Municipality has opened its oldest historical heritage markets and commercial buildings in the heart of Old Mosul, years after the start of reconstruction, following its exposure to widespread destruction at the hands of ISIS terrorists.
The Director General of Mosul Municipality, Abdul Sattar Al-Habou, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: His department opened the oldest and most famous heritage and commercial buildings in the center of its city, which is the Shawwaf Building, after its complete reconstruction, indicating that the heritage building includes four floors, a ground floor and a basement, and contains 120 shops and seven halls.
He explained that the local government, along with licensed construction companies, also opened the largest historical heritage market in the center of Mosul, which is the Wednesday Market, considering its opening an economic station and a tourist facade that restores the luster of the city center area (Bab al-Toub), noting that the market contains (220) shops, pointing out that there are similar historical buildings that will be opened in the coming days.
