Called on the union of agricultural engineers in Basra on Sunday, the Oil Ministry to speed up the implementation of projects lead to a dependence on the sea water in the injection of oil wells, rather than using the Shatt al-Arab low salinity, while the Water Resources Directorate confirmed that this issue does not pose a current threat, but it may cause a problem during the coming years.

Said Captain agricultural engineers in Basra and secretary of the committee to revive the marshes in the provincial council Alaa al-Badran, said that "the oil industry in Basra depends on the Shatt al-Arab and some rivers branching from it, such as hides River caller River Karma, where the water is pulling them to be used in injection wells through oil extraction operations, "noting that" negatively affect the water resources sector in Basra, especially as the oil industry require the consumption of large amounts of water, while maintaining that have low amounts of water brackish. "

Badran said that "oil companies, which holds the development of oil fields by accelerating the implementation of projects require the withdrawal of seawater from the Gulf to be used in injection wells Shatt al-Arab, rather than," asserting that "one of those projects under construction, and, upon completion, will be the withdrawal of water from the public downstream, The Ministry of oil announced weeks ago near their implementation of another project to take water from the sea, and what concerns us accelerate the implementation of these projects. "

For his part, the Director of the Directorate of Water Resources in Basra useful Abdul - Zahra, that " the water is pulled from the Shatt al - Arab to be used in the injection of oil wells are relatively low, which does not currently affect the water resources sector in the province, but is likely to have a negative impact during the the coming years if the decline in discharges water due to run Turkey to fill (Aliso) , "explaining that" the Directorate addressed thesouthern oil company in this regard, so we asked them to direct an official letter to withdraw water from the sea ,because every drop of fresh water will be needed in the coming years. "

The Basra is the oil industry center in Iraq, and the most important oil cities in the world, it has the largest oil fields in Iraq, including Majnoon, Rumaila, West Qurna and rivers Omar, and by maintaining exports most of Iraq 's oil quantities, because of the increase and expansion of the oil projects in the province after 2010 increased environmental pollution rates, as has been the abolition of agricultural activities in the vast expanses of fertile land to mind oil lands.
