Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: Iraqi foreign ministry disclosed its endeavors to "activate" the Strategic
The Iraqi Parliamentary Foreign Relations Commission endorsed this move, parliamentary sources said, pointing that the joint investment will benefit Baghdad and Washington.
Iraq and the USA signed the agreement at the end of November, 2008, in addition to a security agreement that stipulated the withdrawal of the US forces from all Iraqi land, air and sea limits at a date that will not exceed 31 December, 2011, which was completely done, but Iraqi political authorities and observers are looking for the implementation of other clauses of the agreement.
According to Iraqi Foreign Ministry's sources, a committee was formed, few months ago, to study the activation of the Strategic Framework Agreement, comprising representative from higher education, defence, finance, trade, transport and culture ministries, in addition to representatives from the Iraqi Cabinet.
According to available information, the Iraqi side called the US to have a joint meeting, but it is still waiting the American response, which it is not expected to be done before the assumption of the new US President Donald Trump to power.
Iraqi ex-MP from Basra Judge Wa'el Abdul-Lateef commented that "let us tell the Americans take our oil and develop our society to get rid of corruption and decline in services".
He pointed out that Iraq needs renewing its arms for its security forces, regaining its role in the international community, according to the resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council.
Judge Lateef referred to the previous statements of US President-elect Trump which concentrated on oil to be the first for US investments in Iraq, particularly when Iraq occupies the first international position in its oil reserves.
Corruption is the first challenge for the Iraqi government, in addition to the security situation.
