constitutes one of the basic water security to achieve food security pedestals, and work to be supplied and overcome the challenges it faces is the need to require the intervention of the public and private sectors to find outlets reduce the impact on
public life.
According to observers, the situation of water in Iraq is facing many challenges in the forefront of the dispute between the countries upstream and downstream on the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates division, and face the risk of scarcity of water resources, Maidao to make great efforts on the international and local levels and adopt effective strategies to determine priorities in the distribution and rationalization of water use .
Dr. academic Zebra Raad said the "morning": that repeat heat waves and drought , which has become a broader and increasingly led to a change in the amount and pattern of rainfall Mattertb serious consequences for many economic activities, especially agricultural activity.
It is expected that the decline in rainfall in the future to a larger decline in the levels of the Tigris and Euphrates in the coming years , which in turn leads to a decline in the proportion of groundwater and increase salinity in farmland.
Zebra among the most important challenges facing the achievement of food security in Iraq is population growth, water use rise by twice as much as almost the population growth rate, and this trend will continue for many reasons and that Iraq 's need for water in the future will be increased as a result of the continuation of the projected population increase at high rates totaling more than 9.2 percent, and the Iraqi population will be in 2020 , about 40 million people, and that this increase will inevitably lead to a decline in per capita share of water from 5,900 cubic meters in 1977 to 1,500 cubic meters in the years we are living now by UNESCO and this actually what is happening.
The decline in the annual quota of the individual leads to increase the country 's needs of water resources for economic development and the advancement of the agricultural sector in order to secure or move closer to self - sufficiency in food production and protection of natural resources from depletion and degradation , and this requires the cultivation of arable land to quench expansion in the development of industrial projects and implementation of projects for households to achieve the saving needs. Zebra said that the limited water resources in Iraq by the control policies practiced by the upstream countries lead to the reduction of water and increase pollution ratios flows, and this scarcity in the amount of water threatens the lives of the population and adversely affect the plant and animal production and increasing salinity in farmland and increase thechallenges related to the water management, which leads to more competition on theuse of these shared resources in the light of the growing demand for water.
He pointed out that the problem of water in Iraq 's complex and overlapping, since more than 80 percent of the surface water sources are from outside the borders making the control process and ensure the flow of the required quantity of them to Iraq difficult.
Iraq and the form of this week , a delegation tasked with negotiating with Turkey on securing Iraq 's quota of water and evocative understanding between the two countries on sharing water.
He stressed that Iraq must adopt new ways of dealing with the water on the domestic, industrial and agricultural level, can benefit in this area from the experiences of countries in the world. But Abdel - Hamid Ahmed Salman farms on the outskirts of Baghdad in an interview for the "morning" that the decline in water quotas that link to our farms began to decline steadily for several years, which prompted us to look for alternatives to maintain the agricultural area invested despite a decline in the amount of water.
He noted that agricultural areas are also declining in the region that hammer home farmer who invests 20 without becoming financial rations are not enough for only 5 acres or less , and this led to a decline in production of various Mahasl.
Agricultural engineer from the Ministry of lighter button Abdul - Jabbar al - Hassani confirmed that the decline in incoming water amounts to Iraq has become their effects and clear through the reduction of water quotas, noting that it takes great guidance by the Ministry of Agriculture and its departments scattered across the regions of the Iraq Programme farms to guide the adoption of ways suit modern irrigation , water scarcity and provide the necessary crops for the same space that was previously fed the traditional way of irrigation water.[/rtl]
