International Migration: 75% of returnees and 65% of IDPs have difficulty accessing work

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Iraq reported a 75 percent drop in job vacancies, citing a 65 percent lack of jobs at sites hosting displaced people.
"There are approximately 2.9 million displaced people and more than 720,000 returnees living in 3,700 locations across Iraq, according to the assessment conducted between July 1 and mid-October 2016," the organization said in a report on the assessment of displacement and return movements. "This assessment provides critical sectoral information for more than 3.5 million people affected by this crisis since its inception in 2014."
"One of the most important findings of the study is access to income, which is the main concern of both groups (IDPs and returnees)," she said, pointing to "the lack of jobs at 65 percent in sites hosting displaced people, and 75 percent in sites hosting returnees , Thus making it difficult to obtain employment to provide income to a high proportion of households that are not able to access food, non-food items and health services, and reportedly the prices are very high for most of the displaced and returnees.
"Shelter remains one of the most pressing issues for both IDPs and returnees, despite different categorized problems," she said. "Shelter is very expensive for displaced people in half of the sites, and in one third of the sites, the returnees live in poor homes."
"The report stresses that the long-term intention of displaced people is to return to their homes," she said, realizing that "more than 50% prefer to stay in their current position." Finished
