    He said UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura, the Office, it is scheduled to begin a new round of Syrian peace talks sponsored by the United Nations next week in Geneva.
    The United Nations said in a statement that "special envoy Staffan de Mistura, will resume talks between the Syrians under the auspices of the United Nations in Geneva on 16 May / May 2017".
    The announcement comes days from the signing of an agreement between Russia, Turkey and Iran in the Kazakh capital Astana after, to establish "zones to ease the escalation" between government forces and armed factions, aimed at strengthening the ceasefire was entered into force in December / December.
    De Mistura, who was present in Astana, already praised the agreement, describing it as "important and promising positive step in the right direction" to ease the escalation.
    The office said that the United Nations mediator expressed hope last week that Astana agreement "will be implemented in full, which will ease the violent escalation dramatically, and helps in the formation of a favorable environment for political talks between the Syrians in Geneva."
    Several diplomatic initiatives to end the Syrian war, which claimed more than 320 thousand people have failed, and millions displaced since March / March 2011.
    Several rounds did not result from the peace talks sponsored by the United Nations in Geneva for achieving tangible results, even though the parties to the conflict agreed in March / last March on some contents after previous rounds spent in the discussion agenda of the talks.
