WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US Defense Secretary James Matisse said Thursday that Washington would continue to pressure Russia for what he called its aggressive behavior, adding that Moscow was trying to demarcate the border by force.
The news agencies quoted Matisse as saying during a visit to Ukraine that Russia had not complied with the Minsk cease-fire agreement, which was supposed to end the separatist violence in eastern Ukraine.
Matisse stressed that sanctions against Russia would remain until Moscow stopped supporting the rebels and returned the Crimea to Ukraine, but failed to commit to supplying Kiev with lethal weapons.
"Despite Russia's denials, we know that they are seeking to re-delineate an international border by force, which undermines sovereign free countries in Europe," Matisse told reporters, alongside Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
