The Iraqi parliament voted on Tuesday to reject the Kurdistan referendum scheduled for September 25.
"The decision to compel Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to take all measures that preserve the unity of Iraq and start a serious dialogue to address existing issues," a parliamentary source told Asharq Al-Awsat.
He explained that the number of voters on the decision reached 204 members except the Kurdish blocs.
"The constitution obligates members of the council to preserve the unity, sovereignty and independence of Iraq,
He added that the Constitution "identified the cases that will be answered and the referendum of Kurdistan is not among them, and the inclusion of disputed areas in the referendum also violates the Constitution."
