    BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Baghdad's provincial council announced on Monday that 200 dunums of Jadiriya Lake would be transferred to Turkey for investment and turn into an important tourist port. 

    "The local government of Baghdad is seeking to revitalize the tourism and entertainment sector in the capital and to find recreational sites," said the chairman of the Tourism and Antiquities Committee of the Council, Mazen Razouki, in a press statement. "The Ministry of Tourism had concluded several years ago , A contract with a company for the development of the site of Baghdad tourist island. " 

    He added that "the contract includes the addition of new sites in addition to the rehabilitation of old sites such as the tower and lake water, and the project was not completed within the predetermined period because of some technical and administrative problems that accompanied the implementation," noting that "the Tourism Authority concluded a three-year supplementary contract With the company in order to optimally optimize the website. "

    "Among the other important projects in Baghdad is the transfer of 200 dunums from the site of Lake Jadiriya for investment by a private Turkish company to be a tourist port is very important," he said, adding that "the project is still in the beginning of implementation." 

    "Many of the important structures on the Tigris River will be included in the project as part of a plan aimed at the Council to find tourist and tourist sites along the Tigris River," he said, adding that 90 percent of tourism investment is directed at building commercial malls. "Despite the importance of malls, there are enough in the capital, but there is an urgent need for green spaces and landscaping as well."
