The US space agency published a video showing the landing of the Insight probe on Mars, the first mission to study the depths of the Red Planet.
NASA's successful landing of the probe, "Insight," successfully landed on Mars, Monday, on a two-year mission.
The descent marks a six-month journey, after the probe sank 548 million kilometers on its journey from Earth, starting from California in May.
The probe carries equipment to monitor temperatures and earthquakes in Mars, something never measured outside the planet, Reuters reported.
The probe penetrated the Martian atmosphere at 19,795 kilometers per hour, but its speed on its journey to the planet's surface, about 124 kilometers, was reduced by friction with the atmosphere, a giant landing canopy and ballistic missiles.
The probe touched the surface of the planet about six and a half minutes later, and landed as planned in the flat area near the planet's equator.
The Insight will spend 24 months, one year of Mars, taking seismic and thermal readings for information that helps to know how Mars, the Earth's origin, and other rocky planets form the inner solar system.
The 360-kg probe is the 21st US exploration of Mars. The United States began its first flight to Mars in the 1960s, while other nations launched about 24 flights to the planet
