Iran has denied reports that it has temporarily detained an inspector from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), saying it was barred from entering a facility because it carried suspicious material.
The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, in a statement issued Wednesday evening by the Department of Information and Public Diplomacy, said that Iran last week prevented an IAEA inspector from entering the Natanz enrichment facility.
The Iranian organization added that this action was taken because of fears that the employee may carry "suspicious material", noting that "all inspectors are subjected at the beginning of their entry to any nuclear sites for careful inspection."
The statement pointed out that the inspection devices at the site, during the entry of the inspector to the site, warning signs, and therefore were prevented from entering the facility.
The organization said that the Iranian side had informed the IAEA and that the prior acceptance of the inspector had become null and void.
In its statement, the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization stressed Iran's desire to cooperate with the IAEA to continue research in this area.
The IAEA agreed on the matter in a written letter, and therefore, given the cancellation of the inspector's admission, her duties in Iran have not been completed and she left the country for Vienna, while investigations are continuing into the case.
