Iraq called on the UN Security Council to condemn the assassination of the American army, commander of the Iranian Quds Force, General Qassem Soleimani, at dawn Friday in Baghdad, so that "jungle law" does not prevail in international relations.
In a letter to the UN Security Council, the Iraqi ambassador to the United Nations, Muhammad Hussein Bahr Al-Ulum, said that the American raid "is an attack on the people and government of Iraq, and is a blatant violation of the conditions governing the presence of American forces in Iraq, the region and the world."
The ambassador added that his country asked the council "to carry out its responsibilities and ensure accountability for those who committed those violations that not only violate human rights but international law, and that the law of the jungle is prevalent in the international community."
In the three-page letter, the Iraqi ambassador did not explicitly request a meeting of the Security Council to discuss the latest developments.
Iraq does not occupy a seat on the Security Council, but it can request a meeting of the Council by one of the Member States. The message comes the day after the Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced a complaint before the United Nations Security Council. Ended 29 / A 43
