{Local: Al Furat News} Health Minister Hassan Al-Tamimi and his Lebanese counterpart Hamad Hassan signed, on Friday, an expansion of an agreement signed between the two countries to include Beirut providing medical services to Iraqi institutions in exchange for oil.

The signature took place at the headquarters of the Lebanese Ministry of Health in the capital, Beirut, where Al-Tamimi is conducting a visit that began Wednesday, and the duration of which has not been announced.
"The Iraqi delegation (visiting Beirut) was informed of all the high-end and advanced medical services provided by the health and hospital institutions in Lebanon, at all levels," Hassan said in a joint press conference with Al-Tamimi after signing the expansion of the agreement.
In 2019, the two countries signed a cooperation agreement in the field of medical tourism and modern hospital management in Iraq by Lebanese experts, and cooperation in the field of training health personnel.
The Lebanese minister added, "An additional clause has been included in the medical cooperation agreement between Iraq and Lebanon, to include oil in exchange for the provision of medical services."
For his part, Al-Tamimi said, during the same press conference, that expanding the agreement "will help advance the health sector in Iraq on the one hand, and the economic sector in Lebanon on the other hand."
He explained that "over the past hours, we worked to agree on the points that were adopted in the agreement, in order for it to be implemented urgently to provide medical services to the Iraqi citizen."
Iraqi institutions suffer a decline in the services provided to patients, prompting hundreds of them to travel outside the country for the purpose of treatment.
Meanwhile, Lebanon suffers from a severe economic crisis, including a severe shortage of oil and electricity supplies.
During the visit, the Iraqi delegation provided medical assistance to Lebanon, including equipment to counter the outbreak of the Corona virus.
Al-Tamimi said, "The delivery of aid to the Lebanese people is under the direction of Prime Minister Mostafa Al-Kazemi to confront the pandemic.
He added, "We are waiting for Minister Hassan and the rest of the ministers to visit Baghdad to activate the oil clause in exchange for health and medical services that have been agreed upon."
