Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi announced yesterday the start of the large Faw port project, saying that it will provide great opportunities for Iraq, enhance its geopolitical position in the region and the world, and will create many job opportunities.
Al-Kazemi wrote a blog post on Twitter, followed by Al-Mada, that “Al-Faw Port - the strategic project that we have been waiting for for many years - sees the first actual implementation steps, with the Iraqi enthusiasm and their hard work.
He added, "With deeds, not words, we are moving together towards a better future that Iraq and our great people deserve."
On Sunday, Al-Kazemi visited Basra and traveled there.
Al-Kazemi's media office said in a brief statement that "Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, accompanied by the government delegation, made a cruise to see the large dock of Al-Faw port and the breakwater."
Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced the start of the large Faw port project, while noting that the country had been waiting for it for many years.
"Today, we announce the start of an important strategic project that the people of the country have been waiting for for many years," Al-Kazemi said in a speech during the foundation-laying ceremony. He added that "the port will provide great opportunities for Iraq and enhance its geopolitical position in the region and the world, and will create many job opportunities for the people of Basra and the rest of the provinces, and contribute to the development of the province."
He pointed out that "many have gambled on the failure of the project and spread several rumors to frustrate the people, but the project is officially launched today after we finished the planning and negotiations stages and we financed the project from this year's budget."
The Prime Minister pointed out that "the great FAO project is not only for Basra, but rather is a strategic project that contributes to the development and reconstruction of all governorates of Iraq, and makes the country an economic bridge linking the various countries of the region."
He continued, "We are facing a new stage in the modern history of Iraq, where we overcome crises, and move towards construction, reconstruction and prosperity."
Al-Kazemi called “the people of Basra Al-Faiha and all Iraqis to have hope and put our hands together, and build our country from Faw to Zakho,” stressing that “Iraq will rise again with the hands of our young men and women, and by the blessing of God we will open the project and we will continue supervision and follow-up to be completed, God willing, successfully and without delay".
The Prime Minister described the project as a "project for generations and the future."
The Al-Faw Grand Port project included the five docks for containers and filling of the container storage and handling yard, digging the internal navigation channel, digging and furnishing the external navigation channel, the Khor Al-Zubair canal tunnel, and the highway linking the port of Al-Faw and Umm Qasr.
In a related context, Al-Kazemi visited the Sports City in Basra Governorate.
The media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement, that the latter "looked at the stadium in the trunk of the Palm, which accommodates sixty-five thousand spectators, and the Al-Fayhaa stadium (10) thousand, and the training grounds, as well as toured the rest of the sports city facilities.
Al-Kazemi expressed "great interest in continuing to work in the facilities of the Sports City, which is a large sports edifice, as well as continuing to develop sports facilities in Basra Governorate in general, which have become qualified to host various sporting events and activities, foremost of which is the Gulf 25."
The prime minister affirmed, "The government's keenness to provide all support for the success of the tournament and to host the brothers in Basra Al-Fayhaa."
Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi also met a group of young demonstrators who gathered near the gate of the Faw Port Project.
The media office stated in a statement that the latter "listened to the demonstrators' proposals", stressing (Al-Kazemi), that "the right to demonstrate is a legitimate right and is protected by the state with all its agencies, provided that this right does not lead to damage or threaten public and private property."
The statement added, "The Prime Minister directed to prepare for a meeting with a delegation chosen by the demonstrators for the purpose of meeting them in Baghdad, and to listen to their demands and develop solutions to them."
In addition, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi revealed an increase in the reserves of the Central Bank, which reached more than $ 60 billion.
He attributed this to the reform measures taken by the government, pledging to continue fighting corruption despite the obstacles.
Al-Kazemi said, according to a statement from his office that (the range) received a copy of it, that "there was a rise in the Central Bank's foreign currency reserves to more than $ 60 billion, after it was 51.9 billion before the reform measures for this government were initiated."
Al-Kazemi added, "The increase came as a result of the reform measures taken by the government, after many gambled on its failure and lack of continuity."
He pointed out that "success in stopping waste and great corruption in the notorious Central Bank auction is continuing with our procedures, and we will not stop."
Al-Kazemi continued, "Measures to combat corruption continue despite the obstacles that some are trying to put in place, but we will continue without retreat."
He pointed out, "Many projects have been completed in the southern provinces, which are deprived because of wars and mismanagement, and we are working with all efforts since we received this government to make these cities and all regions of Iraq fair."
Al-Kazemi pointed out, "We have overcome many challenges and are working to put the country on the right path. What we ask of our people is patience and a spirit of hope."
