The statements of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, about establishing legal and time-based mechanisms for the withdrawal of the international coalition forces from Iraq, to raise again the debate on this hot and thorny topic, especially since the statement, according to observers, appeared public, and did not enter In the details of the topic, he did not clarify the nature and form of these legal and time mechanisms.
Al-Kazemi said, while receiving a group of senior leaders and officers of the Iraqi security and military services, during a Ramadan breakfast he held in their honor, saying: “We have succeeded, through real and responsible constructive dialogue, in imposing legal and time-based mechanisms for the withdrawal of the international coalition forces, after the Iraqi forces became more ready to take over the tasks. The security forces are facing the remnants and remnants of ISIS, and there are still challenges and needs that will gradually become available so that we are fully prepared to take on all the tasks.
He added, "We have formed a specialized technical military committee to determine the Iraqi needs and necessities, as well as the mechanisms for taking over the tasks from the international coalition forces."
Commenting on Al-Kazemi's statements, the head of the Iraqi Political Thinking Center in Baghdad, Ihssan Al-Shammari, said in an interview with Sky News Arabia: “The Iraqi Prime Minister wants to deliver a message through these statements to Iran's Iraqi allies that he has fulfilled his obligations, especially With regard to the presence of American forces inside Iraq, and that he succeeded in reaching a common space and a formula approved with Washington, for the purpose of restructuring the presence and characterization of American forces in Iraq, by withdrawing all combat forces, but at the same time with an emphasis on re-characterizing those who remain. And framing it in the form of cooperation in the areas of raising preparedness, training and intelligence information, and other broad fields of military and security cooperation.
Al-Shammari added: "This may somewhat satisfy the demands of the armed factions in Iraq, and to some extent also reassures Tehran that Iraq does not want to provoke it, through the presence of American combat forces inside Iraq."
Al-Kazemi's messages,
according to Al-Shammari, "Al-Kazemi wants to deliver a message showing that he is very much ahead of Iran's ally, former Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, in working to withdraw American forces."
He added, "Abdul-Mahdi had stopped the American withdrawal upon assuming the premiership, as the number of American forces when he took office was 5,500, after the withdrawal process had begun following the agreement between the government of his predecessor Haider al-Abadi and the United States, and as a result the number of American forces decreased." On Iraqi soil, from one of 11,000 to a half, and let Adel Abdul Mahdi come and stop the withdrawal process. "
Al-Shammari added, "Al-Kazemi also wants to show that the Iraqi security forces have the ability and readiness to face challenges, and they are not forces incapable of confronting terrorism, but at the same time they want to continue cooperation and alliance, with friendly and allied forces."
And he went on, explaining: "Therefore, I imagine that the process of keeping the American forces in a training, logistical and advisory framework, is part of stabilizing the balance policy that the government of Mustafa Al-Kazemi is pursuing, and on the other hand a message to the Biden administration that Iraq will not be according to the Iranian mood and decision, and will not act according to Seeing Tehran and its Iraqi allies demanding a complete withdrawal of the US presence from the country, and that the US-Iraqi strategic dialogue with its outputs, especially in its third round a few days ago, is one of the most important pillars of the relationship between Baghdad and Washington.
Al-Shammari concludes by saying: “It is too early to talk about setting timetables for foreseeable US withdrawals, as the matter is mainly related to the approaches and deliberations in Washington, between the Pentagon, the President, the State Department and others, from a group of institutions and decision-making circles in the American capital, which are the ones that decide and decide on the matter. Concerning it, and I firmly believe that the final American withdrawal from Iraq, in the foreseeable future, is impossible. "Ended 6/29
