    {Local: Al Furat News} The Supreme Judicial Council clarified, on Thursday, the main criterion for excluding the candidate from participating in the early elections, in addition to other crimes described as dishonorable by issuing legislative decisions describing them as dishonorable.

    And the Supreme Judiciary stated in a statement that {Euphrates News} received a copy of it: In a meeting with the senior judge of the judicial body competent to consider appeals against the decisions of the Electoral Commission’s board, he clarified that “Elections Law No. (9) of 2020 stipulates in Article (3/8) a condition In the candidate, he must not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor dishonorable or illegally enriched at the expense of public money by a final court ruling, even if it includes pardoning her
     He added, "The law requires a candidate to participate in the elections not to have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude, in which the decision has acquired a final degree, even if it is included in the amnesty law, meaning that the main criterion for excluding the candidate from participating in the elections is that the crime for which he is convicted is an honor crime. These crimes are specified under the provisions of Article (6/21) of Penal Code No. 111 of 1969, which are (theft, embezzlement, forgery, breach of trust, fraud, bribery and indecent assault), in addition to other crimes described as violating honor by issuing legislative decisions describing them as violating honor.
    He explained, "It is not possible to consider a specific crime against honor unless a legislative text is mentioned in its regard. Otherwise, they are considered ordinary crimes. It is not legally permissible to exclude those against whom a judgment has been issued from participating in the elections, which is considered a constitutional right according to the text of Article (20) of the Constitution, which states Citizens, men and women, have the right to participate in public affairs and to enjoy political rights, including the right to vote, to be elected, and to be elected.
    It is reported that “the Board of the Electoral Commission excluded in the first round (20) candidates who submitted (10) of them, only 10 of them appealed the decision of the Council, and the judiciary approved the decision to exclude (5) of them for being convicted of crimes against honor, while (5) decisions of others who were convicted were overturned. For crimes related to employees exceeding the limits of their job duties, which are not considered crimes against honor according to the provisions of the laws in force.
