Parliamentary Security: Turkish forces stormed our borders at a depth of 9 kilometers
Baghdad/ Firas Adnan
Yesterday, Saturday, the Parliament’s Security and Defense Committee said that the entry of Turkish forces into Iraqi territory is considered an occupation in accordance with all international standards.
While noting that the invasion reaches a depth of 9 kilometers, she noted that it caused the leveling of lands and the displacement of dozens of villages, and that the Turkish forces imposed a curfew on the people of those areas and prevented them from practicing the profession of agriculture.
Committee member MP Bader Al-Ziyadi said, in a statement to Al-Mada, that "the members of the Parliamentary Committee, within their oversight duties stipulated in the constitution, had earlier conducted a field visit to Dohuk Governorate to see the course of events and the fact that Turkish forces crossed the Iraqi border."
Al-Ziyadi added, "The visit included the farthest point in Zakho district, and other areas in the Amadiyah district, and we noticed an incursion by Turkish forces."
He pointed out, "This invasion means an occupation according to all standards, and this took place at a depth of 9 kilometers on all borders, and in some of them, the entry was more."
Al-Ziyadi explained that "dozens of Kurdish villages in those areas have witnessed the displacement of the population, and the other part is subject to a curfew imposed by the Turkish forces, in addition to being prevented from practicing the profession of agriculture, and the leveling of lands."
He continues, "The area that follows the Turkish forces' control is where the PKK militants and fighters are stationed, and it is under their control."
Al-Ziyadi pointed out that "the forces of the Iraqi Border Command, the First Division, are about 16 kilometers from the border with Turkey, and this is a very long distance, and we have proven all these points in an official report."
He stressed, "The report prepared by the committee included detailed points about the situation in the Kurdistan region and the needs of the border forces, after we noticed a shortage in equipment and numbers, and therefore the role of the security ministries comes to securing those needs."
And Al-Ziyadi added, “A copy of the report will be delivered to the Presidency of the House of Representatives, and another will include a request to meet the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi; To discuss with him about finding remedies for this breach and to ensure that it does not recur in the future.”
He stressed, "Aspects of the report cannot be discussed in the media as it involves a kind of secrecy, and all that has been installed is documented with pictures and documents confirming the Turkish occupation process and not just allegations or accusations."
Al-Zayadi went on to say that “the House of Representatives will hold its session next Tuesday, and our committee will hold a meeting one day before this date; In order to put the last details of the report, and hand it over to the Presidency and all relevant authorities.”
For his part, a member of the committee, MP Saran Al-Aajibi, said in an interview with Al-Mada that the continuation of Turkish violations of Iraqi territory should not be faced with government silence.
Al-Aagebi continued, "The solution to this crisis begins with strengthening coordination between the federal government and the Kurdistan region, and the parliamentary delegation's visit to Dohuk governorate comes within the framework of cooperation and coordination."
He noted, "Iraq has a number of ways it can take in dealing with the Turkish need for its lands, most notably the economic paper, as well as resorting to the international community and communicating at the diplomatic level."
Al-Ajeebi concluded, “Not everyone is with the option of war, because of its negative effects on both Iraq and Turkey, and therefore solutions should come through direct communication, discussions, economic and diplomatic pressures, and the international community.”
The Office of the Commander in Chief had announced a diplomatic move through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy regarding the repeated Turkish attacks on Iraqi territory.
