The Security and Defense Committee in the House of Representatives spoke, on Saturday, about the reasons for enacting the compulsory conscription law.
A member of the committee, Kata' al-Rikabi, said that "in light of the state of loss experienced by young people in the country, there were compelling reasons for enacting this law, which is appropriate to embrace them and extricate them from that situation," criticizing "the timing of sending the draft law from the Council of Ministers to Parliament, as the latter being the latter." The sessions are currently not organized, and there is no opportunity to discuss and approve the law.”
He stressed that "the law is a common national interest in light of the lack of involvement of a new generation since the establishment of the Ministry of Defense in 2005, and that we need to inject new blood into the Iraqi army, and a conscious generation must be created that feels responsible and preserves its country, and that the country has a right over it."
