On Friday (September 10, 2021), the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee confirmed Iraq's lack of monitoring radars and an air defense system, stressing the need to diversify sources of armament without relying on just one country.
Committee member Kata' al-Rikabi told  IQ News that "Iraq does not have advanced radars for monitoring, or an air defense system, because there are those who are trying to obstruct the file of arming the Iraqi armed forces, both internally and externally."
He added, "Iraq has opened channels of communication and dialogue with the Russian side in order to import the long-range air defense missile system, the S-400 and S-300, but we have not reached results in this regard so far."
And he indicated that "Russian contracts are the best in terms of dealing and flexibility in training and advice," stressing "the need to diversify the sources of arming the Iraqi armed forces without relying on just one country."
