{Local: Al Furat News} Iraq and Saudi Arabia decided to open a new land border crossing between the two countries.
A statement of the Ports Authority, which the agency {Euphrates News} received a copy of, stated that "the head of the Ports Authority presided over the ninth meeting of the authority's council in the presence of all its members, which was held in two parts, in attendance at the authority's headquarters and through closed circuit television."
The statement added, "The agenda, which included many paragraphs that work to correct the reality of the work of border crossings, was discussed, as they discussed the projects of border crossings and the way to correct them according to the law and in a manner that serves the development of infrastructure in all ports, taking into account the books of the Ministry of Finance and the Office of Financial Supervision, which emphasized the Commitment to the ownership of the land by the Ministry of Finance, as well as the books of the Ministry of Planning and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, which emphasized that the governorates should develop the infrastructure for border crossings.
The board of the port authority voted "to adopt the recommendations of the committee that was sent to the Muthanna Governorate regarding the approval of opening the Jamima border crossing, after obtaining the approval of the Saudi side to open a corresponding port and the governorate's preparation of the infrastructure and all requirements."
The statement pointed out that the meeting emphasized "not agreeing to change the border port of the exempted goods except in the event of a compelling circumstance, provided that the issue is presented at the nearest session to discuss it and obtain a decision from the Commission to change or not, as well as deliberation on other important issues aimed at ensuring the smooth flow of Work, inspection of goods and upgrading of work.
