[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / - Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Hamid Naim Al-Ghazi, chaired the meeting to discuss the agenda of the committee concerned with finding solutions to address the salinity of the Euphrates River basin and combat desertification within the governorates of (Al-Diwaniyah, Al-Mathah, and Dhi Qar).
During the meeting, Al-Ghazi stressed the need to pay attention to this vital project, which serves a wide segment of citizens in the three governorates in general, and farmers in particular, especially that the Iraqi government has set among its priorities the advancement of the agricultural sector, reform of the food system and the protection of local products.
He pointed out that the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, in coordination with the relevant sectoral authorities, developed all visions and proposals regarding the two projects, and prepared its own recommendations during four sessions, until the issuance of Cabinet Resolution No. 379 of 2021, which allocated three billion dinars in favor of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the same Ministry of Water Resources; For the purpose of directing the plan set by the committee in coordination with the advisory team, which includes a number of academics and consultants.
He urged the staff of the ministries of agriculture and water resources, in addition to the departments of agriculture and water resources in the concerned governorates, to double the effort and raise the pace of work, and the need to adhere to the timelines prepared according to the action plan; In order to end the phenomena of the salinity of the Euphrates River and desertification, by establishing a green belt, and converting part of the lands adjacent to the international road into agricultural lands./End of 7[/rtl]
