Karrada markets stagnate.. Economist: Citizen's security before trade
Shafaq News/ It has been 3 days since the security forces imposed a ban on vehicles in the month of Ramadan after breakfast, preceded by a security deployment, searches and checking the identities of citizens in the Karrada area of Baghdad, after news circulated that this area might be exposed to security threats, while its shops remain in Recession phase as a result of this embargo, which paralyzed its markets.
The security forces banned vehicles in the Karrada area after breakfast, starting from Kahramana Square to the Sabaa Qusour area, with the deployment of a large number of Federal Police at the head of each branch of the area.
On Tuesday, a security source reported that the security forces had entered Warning C for 72 hours in all regions of Iraq.
The source added that "the warning came to thwart all terrorist plans."

The owner of a food store, Muhammad Haider, said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency; "The ban that was imposed on the Karrada area has greatly affected our purchases," noting that "purchasing and selling operations are active after 6 pm, and therefore they have decreased to more than 50% of what they were before the ban."
He added, "What the security authorities are doing is a huge mistake that has greatly affected the markets, whose monthly rents are high and exceed 1.5 million dinars for the simplest store in them," doubting "the existence of such a threat to the security of this region and not others."

The economic expert, Basem Jamil Antoine, considered in an interview with Shafak News Agency; "These measures taken by the security authorities cannot be discussed because they have information that we do not possess, and perhaps any simple mistake that may lead to serious damage to lives, and therefore the security authorities are not looking for commercial and economic matters."
He added that "the security forces must at the same time put in their minds these people and shop owners that they are on the verge of a feast and occasion," adding at the same time that "compared to the security of citizens, it is better if the ban achieves security and stability."

For his part, a security source, who refused to reveal his name, confirmed that he was not authorized to make a statement, in an interview with Shafaq News Agency; That "the ban came as a result of a threat to the Karrada area by the terrorist organization ISIS, following intelligence information, and therefore the Baghdad operations developed a plan to protect citizens through the embargo process, especially since the bombing of the Al-Laith complex years ago is still in the minds of citizens."
