Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Agriculture outlined the main reasons for the decline in local production of crops and agricultural products, while noting that the decision to open imports without licenses as well as water scarcity and the reduction of cultivated areas are the main reasons for the decline in production.

The Minister’s spokesman, Hadi Hashem Hussein, said that “recently, a global food crisis has emerged for several reasons, including wars and conflicts, as well as the pandemic,” noting that “the rise in production inputs globally, including energy and transportation prices, and others, also affected the abundance and prices of food globally.”

Hussein added that "several things have weakened the country's production capacity, including reducing the agricultural plan to 50%, i.e. reducing production by 50% compared to previous years, as well as the decision to open imports without an import permit based on Cabinet Resolution No. 70, 72 and Resolution No. 80."

He pointed out that "the farmer and the producer if they do not find a suitable environment for production from support that meets the desired economic return from their production, as well as weak product competition and weak protection of the local product. watery.”

He stressed that "all these reasons generally lead to a weakness in the total output of crops and agricultural products, and thus a decrease in the contribution of this output to achieving sufficiency and food security at the country level."
