    Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - The Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Bekerd Talabani, explained the ministry's plans to confront drought and water scarcity in the region and the region, noting that the ninth booth attaches special importance to the agricultural sector, due to its importance in protecting food security.
    Talabani told Kurdistan 24 that the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources in the region is in constant contact with the authorities in the federal government regarding drought and its negative effects on all sectors, especially agriculture.
    She confirmed that three reports have been prepared, the first of which contains all the details and data regarding the effects and repercussions of drought on each region in the Kurdistan Region. The second report explains the conditions of dams and water sources in the region, and the third talks about the conditions of agriculture in the region and the effects of drought on them.
    Talabani added that a number of important decisions have been taken in this regard, and one of them is to give importance to providing water, as Prime Minister Masrour Barzani directed the allocation of 16 billion dinars to complete the dams, whose construction has reached 70 percent.
    Baikard Talabani explained that 6 dams will be ready to store up to 50 million cubic meters of water in the next season, and 25 water ponds in various regions of the region, to collect, store and benefit from water.
    The Minister of Agriculture also confirmed that licenses will be granted to dig wells in areas where drought rates have reached high rates, and that the ministry, in coordination with the Investment Authority, will implement a project to irrigate and irrigate agricultural lands, where water will be transferred from rivers to agricultural lands.
    Talabani pointed out that farmers will be provided with modern and technological devices and the development of agricultural work mechanisms in the region.
