The Ministry of Electricity revealed the formation of a joint committee whose mission is to implement a plan that develops comprehensive solutions to the electricity crisis in Iraq, stressing that the equipment at the present time is 25% better than the previous year. The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Moussa, said in a statement to (Al-Mada), that "the ministry has worked for some time to develop a plan that extends for five years to ensure effective solutions to the electricity file."
Moussa added, "The items included in the plan are executable, and will be over short, medium and long terms."
He pointed out, "The short plan ends within a year, to add 7,000 megawatts. We were able to enter 4 thousand megawatts compared to last year."
Moussa explained, "The plan was not completed due to the failure to pass the budget law for the current year," stressing that "the short term of this plan also includes the introduction of solar energies, the completion of electrical interconnection projects, and work on the introduction of combined cycles and the complete installation of cooling systems."
And he indicated, "The long-term plan, with a five-year term, includes the establishment of thermal stations that will serve as the additional load that ensures the stability of the electrical network, including the Shinafiya station, the North station, and the Faw station."
And Moussa added, "These thermal stations, each with a capacity of about 3,000 megawatts, would have included this plan if it had received support."
However, he added, "The support is available from Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi and the government, but it is not sufficient to fully address the electricity problems."
And Moussa stated, "The failure to pass budgets is the main reason for not proceeding with the strategic projects that the Ministry of Electricity intended to work on."
He stressed, "Our plan also included electronic collection, which will be the installation of electronic meters, and this topic aims to maximize collection resources, reduce losses, reduce waste, electrify peripheral, agricultural and random areas, and provide them with a regular service."
Moussa continues, "This plan was put before the government, and Al-Kazemi directed the formation of a joint committee of the ministries of common concern with the Ministry of Electricity, which is finance, planning and oil in order to implement it."
He explained, "The electricity needs a fuel plan for which the Ministry of Oil is responsible, and it needs financial liquidity and the Ministry of Finance is responsible for providing it, and we need to include projects, which is the task of the Ministry of Planning."
Moussa added, "The plan will be discussed in the cabinet or the relevant committee, and as soon as the necessary approvals are obtained, we will start implementing it."
And he continues, "The Minister of Electricity directed the ministerial alert and that the presence and attendance be 24 hours at work sites and the development of solutions to any problem that may occur."
Moussa concluded by saying, "The equipment is very good, and an increase has been achieved by 25 percent over last year, and there are strategic transmission lines and large transformational stations that have entered into work, as well as the distribution sector, which is witnessing good availability compared to last year."
The Ministry of Electricity had promised the Iraqis earlier that this summer will witness better electricity supply than previous years.
