The army renews its refusal to interfere in politics: Our duty is to protect demonstrators and property

The Ministry of Defense confirmed the army's position on the demonstrations, pointing out that its role is to provide protection for them without interfering in political affairs, and while political leaders called for the adoption of dialogue, Iran considered the recent developments in Iraq an internal matter.
And the Ministry of Defense stated in a statement, that "social networking sites circulated a video clip of an officer claiming to be the director of intelligence in the Ministry of Defense, and that he is a supporter of the demonstrators and supports their position."
The statement added that "the ministry confirms its previous positions regarding the demonstrators that it is working to protect them and protect public and private property, and that all the ministry's employees, including commanders, officers, ranks and employees, are neutral, as they are responsible for protecting the country and the people."
He pointed out, "The officer who appeared in the video clip is a retired officer who is not currently working within the cadres of the military establishment, and that what he made is his personal opinion and does not represent the Ministry of Defense."
The statement pointed out, "to resort to the Iraqi judiciary for every person who appears in a military capacity and claims that he is currently working in the Ministry of Defense and expresses an opinion that is not in the interest of the country and distorts the true meaning of what the ministry's employees are doing."
The former prime minister and head of the victory coalition Haider al-Abadi welcomed the calls for dialogue, while affirming his support for the understandings.
Al-Abadi said in a tweet followed by (Al-Mada), "I welcome the calls for dialogue, and they are evidence of the wisdom of all parties."
He added, "I have repeatedly called for dialogue and understanding, and today I renew the call and bless and support any understandings of a solution, regardless of its results, as long as it preserves the security and stability of Iraq and its people and the welfare of its citizens."
Meanwhile, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, and the UN representative in Iraq, Jenin Plasschaert, stressed the need to solve political problems in accordance with the constitution.
A statement from Barzani's office said, "Blaschart condoled Barzani on the 39th anniversary of the Barzani genocide and exerting efforts in international centers to recognize that it is a genocide and is a crime."
The two sides discussed the political situation in Iraq and its developments, and concluded "the need to solve problems in accordance with the constitution based on understanding."
The statement clarified that the two parties discussed the elections in the Kurdistan region, and quoted Barzani as confirming that "the elections should take place soon while protecting the rights of the national and religious sects. For this purpose, the Kurdistan Democratic Party is ready to hold the elections until tomorrow."
Meanwhile, the National Coalition led by Iyad Allawi called on the political parties to calm down and give priority to the language of reason and dialogue, respecting the right to demonstrate and preserving the prestige of the state.
In a statement received by Al-Mada, the coalition said that "Iraq has faced during the past few days dangerous developments in the escalation of positions between the parties to the political and electoral crisis, forgetting the constitutional timings that resulted from early elections that were not appropriate conditions for holding them."
The statement added: "And out of concern for stability and civil peace and constitutional contexts, the National Coalition affirms the call of all parties to calm and give priority to the language of reason and dialogue, and concern for the public interest of citizens and the sovereignty and independence of Iraq and its territorial integrity."
He pointed out, "respect for the right to peaceful civilized demonstration, with the need to preserve the prestige of the state, its institutions, authorities and national, sovereign and legal symbols."
The statement pointed out, "rejecting that state institutions and authorities be a field of conflicts and exchange of messages between the parties to the political crisis."
He believed, "Dismantling the crisis and removing the causes of political tension requires holding a conference for national dialogue between all parties, to agree on acceptable common options, either by holding a session of the House of Representatives to choose a President of the Republic and then forming a government, or moving towards dissolving Parliament and calling for early elections, The solution must be preceded by the adoption of a new electoral law and a truly independent commission; With the transformation of the current government into a transitional government that has legislative powers on a temporary basis.”
The statement stressed, "the continuous calls for national dialogue by the leader of the coalition, Iyad Allawi, and given that the National Coalition maintains good relations with all parties, especially the coordination framework and the Sadrist movement."
And he expressed his "full readiness to host, sponsor and support the national dialogue sessions in any place that is agreed upon."
The statement called on "regional and international powers to respect Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to respect the national will of the Iraqi people in choosing the regime they want."
At the international level, Iran considered the current developments in Iraq to be an "internal Iraqi affair."
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said in his weekly press conference that "Iraq is a big and important neighbor country for us, and we follow up and monitor the developments of events in it carefully and sensitively."
He added, "The Islamic Republic believes that the security of Iraq is one of its security, and that the Iraqi political parties and currents are able to overcome the crisis by following peaceful and legal methods."
Kanaani stressed: "We used to and still respect the choice of the Iraqi people and do not interfere in their internal affairs, but we believe that dialogue is the best way to resolve differences."
"We are confident that the Iraqi people are conscious and mature and will overcome this period with their decency and wisdom," he said.
