Electricity pledges to restore stability to the system in the coming hours
Baghdad/ Firas Adnan
The Ministry of Electricity pledged to achieve full stability of the national system during the coming hours after the recent emergency, stressing that the engineering and technical staff are mobilized to keep pace with the high demand due to the high temperatures.
Ministry spokesman Ahmed Moussa said, "The system has reached a good stage of stability, and it will complete this stability in the coming hours."
Moussa added, "The current production is 22,000 megawatts, with obstetric units that will be connected to the system in the coming days."
He pointed out, "The transmission lines to discharge the produced loads will be ready soon," stressing that "the technical beams that passed through the system during the past days were successfully passed."
Moussa pointed out, "The ministry succeeded in securing all electricity for Karbala governorate during the tenth of Muharram, exam centers and passing the exam process for our students, in addition to overcoming the technical problems that passed as a result of high temperatures and some clear targets for power transmission lines with the symptoms that occur on stomach.”
And he stated, "The ministry's staff is fully mobilized, whether at the technical, engineering, craftsmanship or mechanical efforts, to keep pace with the heat wave and the challenges of the summer," stressing that "what happened during the past days is nothing more than technical symptoms that have been passed and in record times." .
Moussa noted, "The beams previously led to the shutdown of the electrical system throughout Iraq, which we have worked to overcome in the current season by working on the group of lines by securing them and increasing their capacities."
He stressed, "The beams were not simple, but rather large, and some of them were fabricated, as happened on the line linking east Rusafa and Wasit Governorate, which occurred by shooting."
Moussa spoke about the “increased demand for electricity and withdrawals from some governorates by more than the capacity of the transmission lines and obstetric units, and the separation occurred in anticipation of reaching the stage of failure and the loss of the entire obstetric unit.”
And he added, "The transmission lines and obstetric units have specific energies, whenever they are exceeded, exposing them to separation for fear of damage to the electrical equipment," noting that "the efforts of the ministry restore any case of separation within a few hours without delay."
Moussa added, "The status of the electrical system improved by 34% compared to the same time last year, with an increase of 4,200 megawatts, but what we are concerned about is that what happened is an exceptional case that was quickly addressed."
In previous statements, Moussa had stated that “the electric production will reach 25,000 megawatts in the coming days, there are new generating capacities that will enter the work, with the continuation of the periodic maintenance of the stations, the installation of nutrients and other future projects related to solar energy, as well as the connection with neighboring countries.” “.
Moussa added, "The new energies include the second unit in Salah al-Din Governorate, in the middle of this month, with a capacity of 650 megawatts, a crutch station, and other units."
He pointed out, "The ministry is concerned with increasing energy, production volume, transmission lines, and the rehabilitation sector, and is currently working completely without budgets." Moussa pointed out, "The five-year plan concerned with the electricity file is in the drawers of the Council of Ministers, and it has won its approval, and we have proceeded with the short plan that includes adding 7,000 megawatts within a year, and we have been able to add 3 thousand megawatts."
For his part, the economist, Mustafa Al-Bazarkan, stated that "Iraq needs to provide continuous electric power around the clock to 45 thousand megawatts."
Bazarkan added, "The current production, according to official statements, means that the ministry provides 50% of the needs."
He pointed out, "Successive governments have spent on the electricity file since 2003 about 82 billion dollars, which are large sums that were enough to cover Iraq's needs."
Bazarkan stated, "The value of what Iraqis spend on private generators is about one billion dollars annually, which goes in the form of monthly subscriptions to the owners of those generators," noting that "these funds are able to bring us to self-sufficiency in just two years."
In addition, a member of the Parliamentary Energy Committee inside Radi said, "Iraq is facing a problem related to increased consumption and lack of rationalization with the rise in temperatures that reached more than 51 in some areas."
He pointed out, "Technical problems in the ministry, which are not limited to production, but in the distribution and transportation sectors, in addition to violations of the electrical network."
Radi explained, "The situation in this summer in general is better than in previous years, especially since the Ministry of Electricity was ready early to maintain the stations, add new transmission lines and transformers with new capabilities and break the choke."
While Radi confirmed, “The procedures are not without some problems that the ministry must address,” he stressed that “the current production reaches all regions, but to varying degrees, as Basra is cut from the programmed parts.”
The scourge of corruption that afflicts state institutions is one of the reasons for the continuation of the energy crisis, in addition to the networks’ exposure to actual problems outside the control of the state, including the low levels of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the suspension of some power stations in dams, and terrorist operations against electricity transmission towers from time to time. In addition to the continuing increasing demand for the current at an annual rate of about two thousand megawatts.
