Today, Sunday, Minister of Electricity Ziyad Ali Fadel revealed efforts to reach the production of 24 thousand megawatts during the next year, confirming the continuation of the electrical interconnection project with neighboring countries.
Fadel said, “The ministry has prepared a plan that includes increasing the equipped capacities of the governorates, distributing them fairly, reducing the high operational costs resulting from importing fuel and energy, and moving towards fuel-free energy projects, including combined cycles and solar energy, as well as trying to reach few operational and high investment budgets.” .
In an interview with the official newspaper, Al-Sabah, Fadel indicated that “the plan also includes maximizing collection imports and the use of smart systems,” pointing to “the directive to rehabilitate and maintain all production stations.”
And he continued, “The coming period will witness a gradual improvement in electric power,” noting that “the ministry aims during the next year to reach the production of 24 thousand megawatts, that is, to achieve an increase from last year by about 2500-3000 megawatts.”
Fadel stressed, “The continuation of the electrical interconnection project by signing agreements with neighboring countries because of its great benefits on the stability of the electrical system and the possibility of transferring loads, as the interconnection work continues with Saudi Arabia and Jordan, but a large part of it will not be completed next summer, but rather in the summer of 2024.”
The Minister of Electricity went on to say, "The ministry is focusing on including strategic projects that contribute to a qualitative change in electric energy, but their completion may take a period ranging between 2-3 years."
