A government statement received by (Al-Mada) stated that “the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shia’ Al-Sudani, chaired yesterday a security meeting that included the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, and a number of senior security and military leaders from various types of security forces.”
The statement added, "The meeting was devoted to discussing the recent security developments in the governorates of Kirkuk and Diyala, which witnessed two terrorist attacks that led to the death and injury of a number of employees of the security services and civilians."
He pointed out that "Al-Sudani listened to a detailed briefing on the two terrorist incidents, and the military plans put in place to prevent the recurrence of such violations."
Al-Sudani stressed, according to the statement, that "what happened will not pass without the perpetrators receiving retribution."
He directed, "military leaders to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the plans drawn up, and to change the military tactics used in areas witnessing activities of terrorist remnants."
Al-Sudani instructed, "to adopt unconventional methods of confrontation, in a way that weakens the capabilities of the terrorist elements of ISIS and limits their movement."
He also directed, "All commanders and commanders to be present in the field in the operations sectors, to be close to the officers and their affiliates, to work to raise their military morale, and to stand directly on the plans and their field implementation."
And the statement went on, that "Al-Sudani stressed the need for high coordination between the intelligence services, high preparedness, and carrying out qualitative and proactive operations against the enemy wherever it is."
For his part, the spokesman for the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Yahya Rasool, said, in a statement received by Al-Mada, that "the military operations carried out by the security forces in the various sectors of responsibility broke the back of terrorism and killed its leadership with painful blows."
Rasool added, "These operations were met with cowardly acts by ISIS terrorist gangs, which will not go unpunished by the relevant security services."
He pointed out, "A high-level security delegation went to Diyala to follow up the course of the brutal attack that took place in the middle of this week."
Rasool explained, "The intelligence agencies and departments have begun intensive work to find the terrorist elements who committed this terrorist incident."
He noted, "The security forces have been redeployed, according to the request of the people of the region, after the security delegation visited them."
And Rasool pointed out, "Reinforcement has been made to the sector with thermal cameras and surveillance towers, and monitoring the entrances and exits of the area."
Rasool added, "The relevant security services are continuing their investigations into this attack, and the appropriate response will be soon."
