    Shafaq News/ The European Union announced, on Friday, that the Cooperation Council between the bloc, which includes 27 countries, and Iraq will hold its third meeting in Brussels next Sunday.
    The union said in a statement today that the meeting will be chaired by the bloc's high representative for foreign and security policy, Josep Borrell, while the Iraqi delegation will be headed by Fouad Hussein.



    The statement indicated that the Council will discuss developments in Iraq and the European Union in addition to regional and security issues, as well as several files, including immigration, democracy, human rights, trade and energy.
    It is expected that the Cooperation Council between the European Union and Iraq a decision on the establishment of a new sub-committee for development cooperation between the two sides, according to the statement.
    Meanwhile, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, today, Friday, that its candidate, Ambassador Omar Al-Barzanji, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs, won the membership of the Permanent Independent Commission for Human Rights of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (on behalf of the Arab Group).
    The ministry stated in a statement that this membership was achieved during the leadership of Ambassador Abdul Rahman Al-Husseini, Undersecretary for Administrative and Technical Affairs, the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participating in the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania for the period 16-17 March 2023, and holding elections on the sidelines of the conference. .
    She added that Iraq's victory in this membership is considered a victory for all Arabs, and it is complementary to the march that Iraq seeks to strengthen its Arab environment and its prominent role in the group of Islamic countries.
    In its statement, the ministry congratulated the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab Republic of Egypt for obtaining the same membership.
