    The Ministry of Environment announced the launch of a technical cooperation project to support building the regulatory capacities of the Radiation Protection Center in the field of radioactive waste management.
    The technical agent at the Ministry of Environment, Dr. Jassim Abdel Aziz Hammadi, who represented the Minister of Environment, said that the European delegation was headed by Ambassador Stefan Clement, head of the European Union mission to international organizations in Vienna, as well as a number of experts and specialists from representatives of the European authorities in charge of implementing the project.
    Al-Falahi stressed that this project is part of the tool for cooperation in the field of nuclear safety (INSC) implemented by the European Commission, in order to strengthen the oversight capabilities of the Ministry of Environment / Radiation Protection Center in the field of safe management of radioactive waste throughout Iraq. 
    Pointing out that the current project aims to build the capacities and competencies of the Radiation Protection Center in line with the international standards set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
    Al-Falahi indicated that the project came as a result of efforts and discussions that lasted for more than two years, during which an integrated road map was developed for the axes of implementing the project and the mechanism for implementing training and capacity-building programs, which it is hoped will be implemented under the supervision of European Union experts according to specialized training programs in line with the standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency and European best practices. .
    For his part, Dr. Sabah Al-Husseini, Director General of the Radiation Protection Center, praised the efforts made by the organizations of the European Union in order to develop national regulatory institutions, wishing for continued cooperation in related fields. And for the outstanding efforts of the center's cadres who participated in the project preparation meetings, discussing its details and developing detailed executive plans in partnership with supporting European organizations.
