    Baghdad today - Erbil
Today, Wednesday (August 23, 2023), the expert in economic affairs, Farman Hussein, confirmed that the real estate sector in the Kurdistan region has been clinically dead for years, while he reviewed 3 reasons that led to a 25% drop in prices.
Hussein said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the real estate sector suffered a major setback, and most of the real estate trading offices began to close their doors, due to the lack of sales or purchases of apartments and residential homes."
He added that "during the last two years, especially after the Corona virus crisis, and as a result of the continuation of the financial crisis, and the failure to pay employees' salaries, the real estate market suffered heavy losses, and prices fell by 25%."
And he indicated that "this decline is natural, as a result of the absence of government loans or loans from banks, and there are no sales of apartments and residential homes in convenient installments, and most of the sales are only within residential complexes, and to people from outside the Kurdistan region, especially after the facilities provided by the regional government." , which allowed those outside Kurdistan to own property within the region.”
On the other hand, the Iraqis suffer from a significant rise in real estate prices in the central and southern regions, especially the capital, Baghdad, in which nearly a quarter of Iraqis are concentrated, while the investment housing complexes that were supposed to have been established to solve the housing crisis did not succeed, but they have become vulnerable to investment and speculation by owners of money, and rarely These housing units are not purchased by people or families who are already suffering from a housing crisis.
