The Peshmerga forces, in coordination with the Federal Security Forces, are deployed in new areas to cover the perimeter of 650 kilometers in the governorates of Diyala, Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, and Erbil, which are areas of security vacuum or what is termed as "areas of common interest" between the Peshmerga and the Federal Security Forces, starting with the Iranian borders in the Khanaqin region to The Syrian borders in the Suhaila area, parallel to the line of deployment of the federal forces to Diyala governorate and the areas belonging to Salah al-Din, Kirkuk and Erbil.
Lieutenant General Jabbar Yawar, an expert in security and military affairs, said, in an interview with "Al-Sabah": "There is a development program in the Ministry of Peshmerga to make improvements in the performance of the forces to protect areas of common interest alongside the federal forces." Yawar added, "The special program consists of thirty-six points targeting the Peshmerga forces, with a strength of more than 70,000 fighters with thirty brigades." In turn, security expert Khoshnaw Saeed explained to "Al-Sabah" that "in order to face internal and external challenges, optimal coordination must be made between the federal military forces and the Peshmerga forces." Saeed added, "Recent years have witnessed high coordination between the Peshmerga forces and the army, especially during the fight against ISIS terrorist gangs, as the two sides carried out the fight against the terrorists well."
While the director of the Accreditation Center for Strategic Security Studies, Imad Alou, saw that "cooperation between the federal forces and the Peshmerga took many dimensions and different aspects, including cooperation in maintaining Iraq's borders with Iran and Turkey, and there is cooperation in bridging the gaps in the soft areas that began work on since 2021, including the agreement on formation of two brigades.
Alo added, to "Al-Sabah", that "there are technical obstacles and financial allocations that stood as a stumbling block in activating the preparations for the joint security project by forming two brigades of the Peshmerga forces and the federal forces," stressing that "the two forces have become effective and will be practical at this stage."He called for "activating the work of the Joint Coordination Command for operations between the Peshmerga and the federal forces, which are six joint centers agreed upon between the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs and the Joint Operations Command to supervise the strength, effectiveness and openness of the two joint brigades of the Peshmerga and the federal forces," pointing out that "it is hoped that one of them will seize a sector that extends From Khanaqin to southern Kirkuk, while the second brigade will deploy in a sector that extends from Makhmour district to the Nineveh plain, which is a stage that precedes the development of intelligence exchange about the ISIS movement and cooperation between the Counter-Terrorism Service and similar agencies inside the Kurdistan region, in addition to the joint operations that took place between the Peshmerga And the federal army to hunt down the remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs.
