: Accurate intelligence information was received by the National Security Service about the existence of promotional activities for the banned “Baath” in various areas of Iraq, while the Independent High Electoral Commission received reports of violations of the law banning the Baath.
As a result of this information, the National Security detachments launched a large-scale campaign to follow up on the matter and investigate those involved. The campaign began in Kirkuk Governorate through intelligence efforts and the cooperation of citizens in reporting them. The detachments found 13 defendants who had affiliations and promotional activities for the dissolved Baath Party, which led to their overthrow one by one. The campaign also included the governorates of (Anbar, Baghdad, Karbala, and Nineveh) after the detachments intensified their field efforts to identify and arrest 11 defendants within a few hours after some of them appeared in video clips containing glorification of the former regime and others pasted banned promotional leaflets in some public places. . On a parallel level, an official source in the Independent High Electoral Commission explained to “Al-Sabah” that the Department of Political Parties and Entities Affairs received 23 reports submitted against parties that violated the law “banning the Baath Party” during the past month, expressing regret that these violations were committed by political figures and members of the Baath Party. Well-known political parties or leaders of parties that were formed decades ago. He stated that the department did not hesitate to take legal measures against them, by duly summoning them, recording their statements, and referring many cases to the Central Investigation Court in Rusafa, and there is a specialized court, by judicial order, formed to look into violations of the “Baath Party Ban” law. He explained that there are two main committees, one in the department to monitor violations and refer them by the director general of the department to the investigative committee, and another sub-committee in the governorates to verify them.
