    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday (October 5, 2023), the head of the Al-Fatah Alliance, Hadi Al-Amiri, called on the Prime Minister to conduct an investigation commensurate with the extent of the disgraceful behavior that occurred at the annual Iraq festival.
Al-Amiri said in a statement received by “Baghdad Today”: “We call on the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, to conduct an investigation commensurate with the extent of the disgraceful and unacceptable behavior that occurred in the celebration square.”
He stressed "the importance of imposing the most severe punishments on anyone who had a hand in insulting the history, values and customs of the Iraqi people."
The Iraq International Festival, which was held last Tuesday in Celebration Square in Baghdad on the occasion of the Iraqi National Day, sparked a wave of widespread criticism and dissatisfaction at the official and popular levels, due to the appearance of some of its participants - Iraqi and Arab women - in outfits that some considered "scandalous."
Political parties issued several statements of condemnation and demands to hold those responsible for this festival accountable, while the government was not devoid of accusations leveled against it for allowing this festival to be held in central Baghdad.
The government disclaimed its responsibility for holding the festival, and the political advisor to the Prime Minister, Sobhan Mulla Jiyad, commented in a press statement, saying, “The Iraqi government has no relation to holding the Iraq International Festival, and the party organizing it is the artist Shatha Hassoun, with financial support from various companies.”
He considered, "The festival was exploited by some people and entities for political targeting against the current government, and an attempt to influence its performance and achievements with such noise, and the festival has nothing to do with the Iraqi National Day," he said.
