    The Minister Of Transport Arrives At The Shalamcheh Border Crossing To Discuss The Railway Connection Project With Iran

    The Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibes Al-Saadawi, announced today, Thursday, work to determine the routes and stations for the railway connection project with Iran.
    The Ministry of Transport said in a statement received by “Earth News” that “as part of his ongoing field tours to follow up on work on the Ministry’s projects in Basra Governorate, Minister Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi visited the Shalamcheh port to discuss the details and related matters of the railway connection to transport passengers with the Iranian side, accompanied by the Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, and the Director General.” The General Company for Ports of Iraq, Farhan Al-Fartusi and a number of officials in the railways and border crossings,” noting that “Al-Saadawi held an important meeting with the officials to discuss the railway link project between Basra and Shalamcheh to transport passengers.”
    Al-Saadawi confirmed, according to the statement, that “our visit to the Shalamcheh port comes within the planned visits to follow up on important projects in the Ministry of Transport on the field,” considering that “field follow-up returns good results on the progress of work in general.”
    He added, “After the approval of the Basra Governorate departments on the course of the project, we worked today to follow up on this project, to identify the areas that contain mines, which are being removed,” pointing out that “our government, represented by its president, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, has taken several decisions centered around Completing the requirements for implementing the project, on which we have begun work.”
    He stated that “the Ministry is currently working on determining the routes, schedules of quantities, bridges, and initial and final stations for the project,” pointing out that “the railway connection for transporting passengers and visitors constitutes an essential pillar in strengthening the infrastructure of our economy and raising Iraq’s ability to communicate with neighboring countries and the countries of Central Asia.”
    After the meeting, the minister went to the border connection point between Iraq and Iran, to find out the strategic and technical plans for the project.
    Meanwhile, the Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, confirmed that “the routes and conflicts were approved by the Ministries of Oil and Finance,” noting that “this route determines the railway line for which the foundation stone was laid by the Prime Minister in coordination with the Iranian side for transporting passengers.”
    He stated, “The Iranian side pledged to remove the mines that have accompanied the railway track since the war.”
