The Ministry of Transport is preparing to launch the first experimental docking operation in the Grand Al-Faw Port during the coming period, confirming the achievement of advanced completion rates compared to the time plans specified for the completion of the port projects. Director of the Ministry's Media Office, Maitham Al-Safi, told Al-Sabah: The Ministry has taken all necessary measures to complete the launch of the first experimental mooring operation in the Grand Al-Faw Port during the coming period, as the company implementing the project was able to install the first fenders for ships on the port's docks.
He added that the process of starting to connect the fenders is a qualitative leap and indicates the progress of completion rates according to technical specifications, noting that the port is witnessing the achievement of advanced completion rates on the ground compared to what is included in the time plans for development projects. Al-Safi explained that work on the highway project linking the development road and the submerged tunnel to the large port of Al-Faw, which is 62 kilometers long, has also reached advanced completion rates according to the planned timelines. This road will be allocated to transport goods back and forth to the port and will be linked with the development road to reach the port. The international express line and from there to Turkey, noting that the Ministry is currently working on moving to the other stages of the project, including the construction of the relevant sidewalks, after submitting the final version of the project.
He stated that work is continuing on the project to establish the container terminal for the Grand Al-Faw Port, which is one of the five projects of the project, and includes the construction of five giant docks for unloading ships with a length of “1,750” meters, and the establishment of a container yard with a length of “2,000” metres.
