    Oil Minister Jawad Oji confirmed that Iran has achieved self-sufficiency in all areas of the oil industry and that it is fully prepared to develop downstream and upstream activities in the Iraqi oil sector.
    Oji indicated in a statement today, Wednesday, after his meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, and his accompanying delegation in Tehran, that good agreements had been reached in the field of exploration and development of joint land and sea fields between the two sides.
    I add that in the field of developing and modernizing Iraqi refineries at the hands of Iranian specialists, the required consensuses have also been reached, and working groups will be formed to follow up on this issue.
    He pointed to holding positive negotiations in light of the unified positions of Iran and Iraq in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the OPEC Plus alliance.
    He continued that Iran has achieved self-sufficiency in the oil and gas industry and has capable contractors, and that it is ready to develop the oil, gas and petrochemical industries in Iraq, and positive steps have been taken in this regard.
    Minister Oji expressed Iran's readiness to cooperate with Iraq in the field of getting rid of sour and rich gases, stressing that a working group has been formed for this purpose and these operations will begin soon.
    Oji stated that training Iraqi human cadres and specialists and exporting engineering technical services to the neighboring country are among the axes of bilateral negotiations, and that some of these projects have already begun and the tasks of the specialized working groups have been determined to implement them.
    He added that it is hoped that in the near future, the implementation processes for these projects will be activated, especially the bilateral development of the fields shared between the two countries.

    I don’t see any upside from Iran getting this involved with Iraq oil industry. Oil and gas is currently Iraq’s largest industry and it appears to me this is a method for Iran to get control of Iraq’s economy. This is dangerous for everyone imho.
